What is Career Counseling?
Career counseling will only be as successful as the work you put into it...
Career counseling is the process of self-exploration combined with looking into the world of work. We look at career counseling as a holistic process as your life issues are also a part of your work issues. Integrating them both into the counseling process makes for a well-rounded approach to career development.
Some of the questions we may explore in career counseling include:
What are your values, what motivates you?
How does your style impact your work?
What are your interests?
What are you good at and how do you leverage it?
How do you explore different work options?
What is involved in the day-to-day tasks of different occupations?
How do you make a career decision?
How do you create a plan of action?
How do you stay career resilient?
How do you write an effective resume and interview successfully?
We answer these questions and more together through the use of assessment tools and the counseling process. The tools that I use with clients in the counseling process include:
Myers-Briggs Type Indicator ®
Strong Interest Inventory ®
Career Occupational Preference System (COPS) ®
Kerwin Values Survey (KVS) ®
Other various exercises and “homework” assignments
These assessments are “spring boards” to further conversation and not meant to deliver the “final” or “perfect” answer. We are looking for the trends about you in an effort to explore your next steps.
